The MotoGP riders Dani Pedrosa and Héctor Barberá, have completed their trek to climb Mount Blanc along with Marc Coma, the Dakar Rally winner.
Earlier this week the party began their expedition as they took on the Extreme Challenge, part of a television series for the Spanish TV Channel Cuatro.
On Monday morning at 4am, the group began their final 1,000m ascent, taking them to the summit of Mount Blanc which they reached in four-and-a-half hours, despite winds of 70km/h and with a chill factor of minus 35ºC.
Pedrosa and Barbera both suffered problems with the freezing weather conditions, losing the feeling in the hands and feet but continued to the end. The group, only 25% of whom had actually managed the final climb, then had a gruelling descent of another two hours before taking a well earned rest.
After an hour, they then tackled ‘The Ravine of Death’, a gorge well known for his avalanches of loose rocks and stones, before spending the night at the Tête Rousse refuge. The party returned to Chamonix the next morning and after spending their final night at the camp they were flown home, exhausted but proud.
