When interviewed after the race on Sunday in Italy, Hector Barbera had quite a lot to say on his feelings about the incident which ended his race on the final lap of the Moto GP.
The Spanish rider accused Marco Simoncelli of deliberately applying his brakes on the start of the final lap and also said it was an ‘unsporting and illegal manoeuvre’.
“He knew that my bike was more powerful than his, and I suppose he thought that the only way that he could win was to get rid of me. He opened his leg when he felt my slipstream, hit my brake lever and from then I just started spinning. It doesn’t seem to me to be a very legal move, and the team have been watching the video to see if there is evidence to fine him. He could have killed me.”
The two riders have had their disagreements in the past although very recently, Mika Kallio complained that Simoncelli had made a similar manoeuvre on him at the Portugal race, blocking his slipstream, could be handbags at dawn!
