Lorenzo Won’t Be Fully Fit For France

Joy Ryder - Tuesday 13.05.08, 11:25am

jorgeJorge Lorenzo has said he will not be fully fit for the Le Mans MotoGP this weekend in France, but he has confirmed that he will be racing despite his injuries.

Lorenzo had a heavy crash in the practice session of the Chinese Grand Prix and injured both of his ankles.  He went on to race and take fourth place even though the Spanish rider could hardly walk.

The 21-year-old says that his mental condition will see him through the race at one of his favourite tracks.  In a team preview he said “I was lucky in China.  If I’d have landed differently it could have ruled me out until the middle of the season and certainly prevented me from enjoying myself as much as I am in this early part of the season.”

“In China I realised the risks in this sport, as riders we have to take a lot of risks and that Sunday in Shanghai, with my emotions and my feelings, I knew I had to go through it and take risks again because my team were depending on me in the box.”

“I won’t be 100% for Le Mans but my mental condition should make me strong at one of my favourite circuits and I am really looking forward to the race just the same.  I know my team will help me all that they can and hopefully I will be in good enough shape to challenge strongly, as I have at the first four races.  China was unfortunate but now I have to move on.”

Lorenzo is trailing his Spanish rival, Dani Pedrosa, by only seven points going into this weekend, which he knows is going to be a challenge.  He has been confined to a wheelchair ever since his return from China and only when he gets on his bike on  Friday will he know if he will be able to ride through the pain.
