Last night saw the Moto GP first practice session take place at the Losail International Circuit ready for the first Grand Prix of the season this weekend at Qatar.
Casey Stoner was on form and led both of the practice sessions under the new lighting system for the first ever night race for the Moto GP riders. In the second practice session, Stoner cut almost half a second off his lap time from the first session with a 1:55.442.
The Moto GP rookie Jorge Lorenzo, continued with his impressive riding and came in second fastest only 0.011 slower than Stoner.
James Toseland another newcomer to Moto GP, also had an impressive testing session with a third despite crashing out earlier although luckily unhurt.
Fourth was Colin Edwards with Andrea Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis following to ensure that all four of the 2008 season’s rookie riders were in the top six runners.
To complete the top ten riders were, Randy de Puniet, Valentino Rossi, Chris Vermeulen and Dani Pedrosa .
The Spanish rider, Dani Pedrosa hit the back of Valentino Rossi’s bike when Rossi had eased off the throttle 40 minutes into the late session, but fortunately both riders were uninjured in the incident, with Rossi able to continue his lap unaffected by the impact, but Pedrosa ended up tumbling into the gravel.
In the 250cc practice, Hector Barbera took the provisional number one spot ahead of Mattia Pasini, Alvaro Bautista and Marco Simoncelli.
In the 125 session Bradley Smith, that little ginger ninja took the top time ahead of Danny Webb. They were followed by Mike di Meglio and Simone Corsi.
