Jorge Lorenzo, the Fiat Yamaha rider, has more injuries than was previously thought after his heavy landing after high-siding off his machine at the US Grand Prix last week.
He has broken the third, fourth and fifth metatarsal bones in his left foot and now has his foot immobilised for ten days while in plaster. His recovery will then begin to get him fit for the Czech MotoGP on 17 August.
This week, Marco Melandri should learn if he will be racing at the Czech GP for Ducati after it was revealed that his last two races could be the decider.
He crashed out in Germany and finished down in sixteenth place at the US, and with the knowledge that Sete Gibernau is waiting in the wings ready to take his place, it must be a very worrying time for Melandri.
Michelin admitted to getting it wrong at the recent Laguna Seca race after the circuit proved to be less aggressive and the track temperature not as hot as expected.
Frederick Henry-Biabaud, Michelin’s competitions director said,
“We didn’t want the same problem (as in 2007) this time, so we recommended a very conservative direction to our teams. It was a mistake from which we have learned. Over the next three weeks we will therefore work in two directions. First, we will organise tests at several tracks. Second, we will continue developing some new solutions that we already have under development and which we will recommend to our teams for the next races, representing a more ambitious direction.
We will also evolve the way we recommend tyre solutions to our teams, because this way we can deliver better performance. The season is far from over and we look forward to the last seven races after some very positive races already this year.”
