Jorge Lorenzo took pole position in qualifying yesterday before suffering a dramatic high-side towards the end of the session and was stretchered off track by medics.
The Fiat Yamaha rider crashed on turn 10, with only three minutes of the session to run, the same place where he had come-off earlier and managed to get back to the pits to get his spare bike.
Lorenzo was initially treated at the medical centre for a suspected partially dislocated right shoulder and badly bruised right foot. Today the Spaniard will undergo further tests to see if he is fit to ride and a decision will then be made by the team.
Only moments after Lorenzo’s crash, Casey Stoner was seen flying through the gravel at turn 3, and was also stretchered off track. The Ducati Marlboro rider crashed hard while in second place but was later seen walking unaided albeit with a limp and it’s reported that he has received a groin injury but is still expected to race.
Valentino Rossi who qualified in second after beating Stoner’s time at the end of the session, sat alone in Parc Ferme while the other two riders underwent medical attention.
The two Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso, qualified in fourth and fifth respectively followed by Toni Elias on the San Carlo Honda machine.
Colin Edwards on the Monster Tech3 Yamaha qualified in seventh ahead of Nicky Hayden on the second Ducati Marlboro and Chris Vermeulen on the Rizla Suzuki. Vermuelen had a huge crash in the morning practice session and suffered heavy bruising as well as a badly damaged machine but the team worked hard to get his bike repaired to get him on the grid.
Loris Capirossi on the second Rizla Suzuki completed the top ten line-up in an action packed qualifying session ahead of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday.
