Casey Stoner on the Marlboro Ducati took pole position to today in qualifying for the seasons finale tomorrow in Valencia.
As Stoner took his ninth pole of the season he was followed by the two Repsol Honda riders, Spain’s Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden.
Hayden, who will be racing his Honda for the final time, had dominated the free practice session and set the pace for most of the qualifying until Stoner made a minor adjustment on his machine and took the number one spot.
The two Tech 3 Yamaha riders will start the second row with Colin Edwards in fourth and James Toseland in fifth.
Randy de Puniet on the LCR Honda, crashed his machine shortly after the session started and had to run back to the pits for the second bike, he went on to claim sixth place.
Jorge Lorenzo on the Fiat Yamaha took seventh place while his team-mate Valentino Rossi, the World Champion, finished down in tenth position.
Loris Capirossi for the Rizla Suzuki team finished in eighth place followed by the JiR Scot Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso and Rossi.
