Qualifying For Jerez Moto GP

Joy Ryder - Saturday 29.03.08, 22:18pm

lorenzoThe rookie Jorge Lorenzo, is on pole position for the Yamaha Factory team in tomorrows Spanish Grand Prix after smashing the track record with a time of 1:38.189.

Dani Pedrosa is right behind his countryman in second place on the Honda with Colin Edwards, the Yamaha Tech3 rider in third. Edwards had earlier taken a trip through the gravel and then on another hot lap was seen going down onto his whole leg but managed to right the bike which raised a huge applause from the crowd as he took a bow.

Nicky Hayden is in fourth just 0.003 seconds ahead of Valentino Rossi who was seen coming into the pits in the middle of his last lap indicating a problem with the bike. Randy de Puniet was in sixth place completing the second row of the grid.

The reigning World Champion Casey Stoner, struggled with the Ducati and only managed seventh place only just ahead of James Toseland who is still suffering from flu. Obviously a frustrating qualifying for Stoner as he was seen kicking out at another rider as he went past.

Marco Melandri had a big crash at the corner behind the pits and damaged the bike with only just under half an hour to go so will now start in last place on the grid.
