Qualifying For San Marino

In the qualifying session today ahead of tomorrows San Marino MotoGP, Casey Stoner took his seventh consecutive pole position for the Marlboro Ducati team.

Valentino Rossi, on the Fiat Yamaha in second and his team-mate, Spanish rider, Jorge Lorenzo, was right behind him to take his place back on the front row of the grid, after a season marred with injury.

The three top riders battled it out on track, swapping the lead several times until Stoner set a time of 1:33.378 with only two minutes of the session remaining.

Randy de Puniet on the Honda LCR was fourth fastest to start the second row of the grid alongside Toni Elias on the Alice Ducati and Dani Pedrosa on the Repsol Honda.

Rizla Suzuki rider, Chris Vermeulen, set the seventh fastest time ahead of Shinya Nikano on the Honda Gresini followed by both Tech 3 Yamaha riders, James Toseland and Colin Edwards.

Loris Capirossi, on the second Rizla Suzuki, finished down in eleventh place after having problems with set up and then getting caught up in traffic.

John Hopkins could only manage seventeenth place today after missing out on Friday practice after aggravating a rib injury.  His team-mate, Anthony West is right behind him in eighteenth position with both riders struggling with the set up of their bikes.

250cc Qualifying

Hector Barbera on the Aprilia took pole position today followed by Marco Simoncelli on the Gilera ahead of tomorrows Grand Prix in Misano.

The Championship leader, Simoncelli, managed to get within eight hundredths of a second of the time set by Barbera on his final lap.

Aleix Espargaro was third fastest followed by Yuki Takahashi on the Honda to complete the front row of the grid.

KTM rider, Hiroshi Aoyama, starts the second row of the grid followed by Aprilia rider, Thomas Luthi in sixth and the second KTM ridden by Julian Simon in seventh.

Hector Faubel finished in eighth place ahead of Mattia Pasini in ninth and Mika Kallio in tenth.

Gabor Talmacsi on the Aprilia took his third consecutive pole position today after improving on his provisional pole set yesterday.

Britons, ‘Ginger Ninja’, Bradley Smith, took second only two-tenths of a second slower than Talmacsi, followed by the Derbi rider, Pol Espargaro in third.

Scott Redding is in fourth place to complete the front row of the grid, he was second fastest in the first qualifying session but was unable to improve in the second, moving him down the grid.

Simone Corsi starts the second row of the grid followed by Mike di Meglio in sixth and Sandro Cortese in seventh place.

Marc Marquez will start from eighth on the grid ahead of Nicolas Terol in ninth and Joan Olive in tenth.
