Rizla Suzuki Prepares For Night Race

Joy Ryder - Wednesday 27.02.08, 13:30pm

bikeThe Rizla Suzuki team are to join the testing this week at the Losail circuit in Qatar for the preparation of the inaugural night race.

The circuit will be floodlit with thousands of high-tech bulbs that do not create shadows or reflections on the track.

Loris Capirossi has previously experienced riding on the track under floodlights as he was one of the riders chosen last year to test out the possibility of night racing but for Chris Vermeulen it will be a new experience.

The Australian, Vermeulen was to have said “It is a very exciting thing to be riding the bike at night, but that will also present us with some extra problems that we will need to overcome as well, like where to put the lights on the bike and managing to stay awake”.

Capirossi was in agreement and feels that there will be a new set of problems with set-up for the tyre suppliers and for the crews as the temperatures will be lower at night.

Capirossi went on to say “I tested last year under the lights, and the track was very good”,  “It was very bright and almost like daylight- I could even use a dark visor!”.

The teams begin their testing at 17.00hrs local time on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th with both sessions running until midnight.
