A story that surfaced just before Christmas suggesting that Valentino Rossi and Troy Baylisscould face each other in the second round of the World Superbike series at Qatar has so far not been confirmed or denied by either rider.
The story has gathered some momentum over the last few days with speculation over whether the two World Champion riders would race head to head or take their places as wild cards in the normal WSB line up.
The story started after Bayliss was presented with the Moto Sprint Rider of the Year Award for 2009, causing Rossi to claim that WSB was more enjoyable racing than Moto GP. Rossi is said to have made the challenge to Bayliss for a one off race and the eventual response from the retired WSB champion was that he would race Rossi for £1million.
Will it happen? I doubt that it will and if it did what purpose would it serve. But we will keep you up dated on any further progress anyway.
