Casey Stoner on the Ducati Marlboro took the victory at Donington Park in the British MotoGP Championship after starting on pole position. The reigning World Champion is still 45 points behind this season’s Championship leader, Valentino Rossi.
James Toseland continued where he left off from in qualifying yesterday and went down on the first corner. He managed to get back on his bike although seemingly injured and with a foot peg missing off his Yamaha Tech3.
There was a fantastic battle going on between Valentino Rossi on the Fiat Yamaha and Dani Pedrosa on the Repsol Honda swapping second and third places with Rossi finally taking second followed by Pedrosa.
John Hopkins suffered a mechanical failure on the Kawasaki on lap eighteen which saw him retire from the race.
Colin Edwards on the Yamaha Tech3 took fourth position followed by Andrea Dovizioso on the JiR Scot and the amazing Jorge Lorenzo who started from seventeenth place on the grid and while still recuperating from his injuries.
Lorenzo had moved up to tenth place by the end of the first lap and with only five laps to go had passed Nicky Hayden and Chris Vermeulen for the sixth place.
Hayden took the seventh place on the Honda HRC with Vermeulen on the Suzuki in eighth, Shinya Nakano for Honda Gresini in ninth and Anthony West on the Kawasaki rounding off the top ten.
Toseland finished the race but way back in seventeenth place at his home track.
