Heavy rain and strong winds were the order of the day at the Indianapolis MotoGP yesterday with the race being red-flagged with seven laps still to run.
Valentino Rossi claimed his fourth straight win and now leads the championship by 87 points from Casey Stoner.
Nicky Hayden in front of his home crowd finished in an amazing second place for his final season for the Repsol Honda team.
It has now been confirmed that Hayden will be riding for the Ducati Marlboro team in 2009 alongside Casey Stoner, replacing Marco Melandri.
Rossi’s team-mate Jorge Lorenzo finished in third place on the second Fiat Yamaha Italia followed by Casey Stoner in fourth.
Stoner blamed a fading rear tyre for his performance at Indianapolis yesterday which he said prevented him from pushing as hard as he would have liked.
The wind at the circuit also caused mayhem for the spectators as an infield tent collapsed causing two injured fans to be taken too hospital.

The 125cc bikes were also a casualty of the weather yesterday as their race was cut from 23-laps down to seventeen.
Nicolas Terol claimed the victory when the race was red-flagged on lap fourteen. The Jack & Jones rider was leading the pack by lap ten after passing his fellow Spaniard Pol Espargaro.
As the weather worsened, Espargaro flew past Terol to claim the lead in preparation of the race being stopped, which it was moments later, meaning the victor was the leader from the previous lap.
Stefan Bradl finished in third place followed by British rider Scott Redding in fourth, Simon Cortese in fifth and Marc Marquez in sixth.

The 250cc race was cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions at the American circuit. The race was originally postponed for three hours before the riders lined-up on the grid and the heavens opened yet again sending the teams back to their garages.
After the MotoGP event had to be red-flagged before the end of their race and the worsening conditions at the track it was decided to abandon the 250cc race as well.
