Following the victory of his win at Catalunya for Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa along with his team-mate Nicky Hayden, a two day test session started yesterday.
They had planned to test the new engines with Pedrosa starting with the conventional engine then changing to the pneumatic-valve unit, but there were problems and the bike developed a minor electrical fault.
Pedrosa suffered a high-side fall, landing heavily on his back. He was taken to hospital but suffered only a badly bruised back with no broken bones. He will however, need 48 hours of complete rest and pain-killing drugs and will take no further part in the test session.
Nicky Hayden seemed impressed with the pneumatic-valve engine speed and reliability and spent most of yesterday working on his set-up.
The Ducati rider, Casey Stoner, finished at the top of the time-sheet at yesterdays testing session in Catalunya on the new GP9. The new bike features a carbon fibre chassis which will be tested by Marco Melandri today.
Valentino Rossi was the second fastest man on the track for the Yamaha team followed by Shinya Nakano for San Carlo Honda and James Toseland on the Yamaha Tech3. Alex de Angelis was in fifth place on the second Honda ahead of Nicky Hayden on the Repsol Honda.
